Lars Hrafnason Dahlgren was born at Gamla Upsala, Sweden and raised in the old ways. It's hard for him to remember when magic wasn't a part of his life. Although his use was strictly regulated by the Swedish Ministry of Magic, under the watchful eyes of his parents and grandparents he gradually grew in his knowledge of the northern mysteries, and the runes in particular held his fascination. When the time came for his formal education, he was enrolled at Durmstrang, where he added Divination, Charms and History of Magic to his list of academic interests.
As a graduate, he spent the next several years making a comprehensive and detailed study of the historic runestones around the North Sea basin, probing them not only for historical value but for their magical intent. His study was eventually published in a thick volume of the sort that gathers dust on library shelves for decades before being first opened. Other efforts have included translating several old Icelandic sagas into modern Swedish and debating with fellow scholars for the inclusion of the Solsaangen in the canonical Poetic Edda.
Currently, his research has brought him to Scotland, where he is seeking relics left from the Viking era settlements of the British Isles. In need of funding for his field equipment, and eager to pass on his knowledge to the next generation of witches and wizards, he has applied for a position on the faculty at Hogwarts.
